Your journey begins with a visit to Kairouan, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its deep religious and cultural significance. Explore the Great Mosque, the Aghlabid Basins, and the Medina, taking in the rich history of this ancient city. After a stop for lunch, continue the drive to Tozeur, an oasis town on the edge of the desert. Settle in for the evening and enjoy a traditional dinner.
Start your day with a 4WD journey to the mountain oases of Chebika and Tamerza. Take in the quiet beauty of Chebika’s natural springs, and explore the historic ruins and waterfalls of Tamerza. For lunch, enjoy a peaceful meal in an oasis, where the local flavors and tranquil setting create a memorable experience.
In the afternoon, cross the vast Chott El Jerid salt flats, a striking desert landscape that stretches far into the horizon. Arrive in Douz, where you can choose to ride camels or take an ATV ride through the dunes. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner at your desert camp. A highlight of the meal will be ash bread, baked in the sand, offering a unique and simple touch to your desert experience under the stars.
Start your final day with a visit to Matmata, home to the famous troglodyte houses where local Berber families have lived for centuries. You’ll also visit the Star Wars filming location at the Sidi Driss Hotel, which served as Luke Skywalker’s childhood home on Tatooine. Explore the unique underground dwellings and learn about the culture that has shaped this remarkable place.
Afterwards, continue to El Jem, where you’ll tour the impressive Roman amphitheater, one of the largest and best-preserved in the world. Enjoy lunch before heading back to Tunis, bringing your Sahara adventure to an end.
